MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTV) - Republican presidential candidates continue to criss cross the Palmetto state in search of undecided voters.

Following Monday night's debate, Texas Governor Rick Perry and former house speaker Newt Gingrich opened their campaign day near the Grand Strand.

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTV) - From the upstate of South Carolina to the coastal low county, fixing the economy is one critical issue keeping many voters in search of a nominee.

That's why the interest was so high in South Carolina's Republican Presidential Primary at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.

Every seat was taken and without question it appeared that just about every candidate was going after front runner Mitt Romney.

Early on he skirted the question about releasing his tax returns, but finally answered after being pinned down by one of panelists.

"Time will tell, but I anticipate that I will be asked to it around the April time period, " Romney said.

Newt Gingrich plans to release his returns this coming Thursday, and as it related to jobs he says unemployment benefits run too long.

Gov. Perdue's decision could affect same sex marriage ban

Gov. Perdue's decision could affect same sex marriage ban

GREENSBORO, NC (WBTV) - Something unexpected happened on the way to North Carolina's vote this May on banning same-sex marriage.

The constitutional amendment, if approved, would make North Carolina the last state in the Southeast to ban gay marriage.

Already the state defines marriage as between a man and a woman.

Supporters say it would help the state against legal challenges from same-sex couples who've been able to get married in other states.

Democratic Gov. Beverly Perdue unexpectedly announced last Thursday that she won't seek re-election. That means more Democrats could turn out to the polls for the May 8 primary to pick a new candidate for governor.

Before that, mostly Republicans were expected to show up to pick their candidates for governor and president. They were expected to approve the ban.

Catawba Indian tribe sues state over gaming

COLUMBIA, SC (AP) - South Carolina's only federally recognized Indian tribe is suing the state over the right to gamble on its reservation.

The suit filed Tuesday by the Catawba Indian Nation also asks that local authorities be prevented from seizing gaming machines while the lawsuit moves forward.

The tribe was officially recognized under a 1993 settlement. Attorneys for the Catawbas say that agreement gives the tribe the right to conduct games to the extent that they are allowed anywhere else in the state.
